Based at Kyaninga Lodge, the marathon is a big day in the local and international calendar. The Running the Rift 42km, 21km and 10km takes place every year in November. Beginners run alongside Olympians. Locals run alongside visitors from around the world. All here to run the most stunning race route imaginable. You will run high up on the Rift Valley Escarpment, looking out as the Rwenzori Mountains melt into the East African plain. All followed by a big after-party and BBQ. More information is here.
Prepare for a dance extravaganza in a unique setting. Spend the day dancing on our purpose built dance floor, set against the open backdrop of Lake Kyaninga and the Rwenzori Mountains. In the day, practise your moves with coached dance sessions in readiness for the evening dance competition. In the evening, show off your new dance moves and wine and dine into the early hours. Follow the Facebook group here for more information.
The day after the Running the Rift Marathon it is the KCDC all-inclusive Sports Day. This day was the highlight of 2016. Local families with disabled children came to show the town of Fort Portal that disability is not inability. Ugandan Paralympic Silver medalist David Emong led the games, as marathon runners from around the world joined the children and families for a whole host of fun - tyre races, tag rugby, football and a drum circle to name a few. Join us this year for what will be another memorable event. More information is here.
For the ultimate challenge, or team event, we present the Kyaninga Triathlon. Now in its sixth year, this event is always popular. Swim, cycle and run, solo or in a team relay. There is also the choice of a long course and a medium course. Explore the lake and forest of Kyaninga in all its glory. Then join us for another after party to remember. Remember Lake Kyaninga is completely safe to swim in. See the Facebook page here for more information.
Kyaninga Dairy is a brand new project that aims is to make the KCDC completely self-sufficient. The project is simple. To make and sell goats cheese throughout Uganda with all profits going to the KCDC. The Kyaninga Farm was set up, with expert help from the UK, on the idyllic Kyaninga Crater Lake, next to the lodge. Visit the farm whilst staying at the Lodge, taste our cheeses, and find more information on the Facebook Page here.
